LGBT Community Celebrates Pelosi, Rendell In Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Hours before the DNC came to an end, two Democrats -- one Philadelphians are very familiar with -- were honored for their work fighting for LGBT civil rights.

The Equality Forum often presents their International Role Model Award to a distinguished members of the LGBT community.

On Thursday at the National Museum of American Jewish History it went to an ally -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.

"We have to feel very proud that we're on the forefront of something that makes America more American," she said. "In this beautiful city, where all men are declared to be created equal that we are honoring that vision of our founders."

She also expressed her desire to fight for all parts of LGBT:

"People had said to me before if you just take out 'T' you could pass this (Hate Crimes) bill in a minute, and I said 'you know what, we're never going to pass it in a million years without T'."

Also honored by the Equality Forum -- former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell.

"As far as we've come, there are battles left on the horizon," he said. "We can't be satisfied, we can't become complacent."

He was given the Frank Kameny Award recognizing his ongoing push for LGBT equality.
