Leaf Changing Season Right Around The Corner

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Now that autumn has arrived, the changing of the leaves won't be far behind.

The weather has been spectacular for months -- cool, dry and sunny, and that brings out the best of the fall colors according to Tomasz Anisko, Curator of Plants at Longwood Gardens in Kennet Square:

"We missed it for a couple of years for a variety of reasons, but I think this time conditions thus far have been very favorable for the trees to photosynthesize, to store carbohydrates and to get ready for spectacular fall color."

He says even in bad years, you see yellow leaves in the fall, but it takes bright sunny days with cool nights to bring out those rich reds.

Anisko adds we should start noticing this in just a few weeks.
