La Salle Upsets Dayton 55-53

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jordan Price scored 21 points and La Salle upset Atlantic 10 first-place Dayton 55-53 on Saturday.

The loss knocks Dayton (23-7, 13-5) into a second-place tie with Rhode Island a half-game behind Davidson, which played its last game later Saturday.

Both teams started slowly, as La Salle (16-15, 8-10) led 6-2 nearly five minutes in. The Explorers made an eight-point run midway through the half, including Jordan Price's 3-pointer, to lead 20-9 with 6:48 left. But Dayton made three late 3s, the last by Scoochie Smith, and trimmed its deficit to four, 23-19, at the break.

Dayton used a 10-point second-half run, started by Jordan Sibert's 3-pointer, to lead 32-28 with 12 minutes to go. But La Salle responded with the next seven points and led by seven with 3:44 left.

The Flyers drew to within two with 55 seconds left on a pair of Kyle Davis free throws, but Jerrell Wright dunked at the other end and Jordan Price made seven of eight free throws to seal it.

Sibert led Dayton with 17 points.
