La Salle Tops George Washington From Line, 76-72

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Tyreek Duren's two free throws with two seconds left in the game preserved La Salle's 76-72 win over George Washington in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both schools Thursday night.

Patricio Garino's layup with six seconds left cut the La Salle lead to two, 74-72, and Joe McDonald stole the ball two seconds later, only to turn the ball over himself.

La Salle took the lead early in the first half and did not trail again. The Explorers' biggest lead was seven points in the first half.

Sam Mills led the Explorers (8-6, 1-0) with 17 points. Tyrone Garland added 15 points and Duren added 13. La Salle shot 22 of 45 from the floor (48.9 percent) and was 9 of 20 from long range.

Isaiah Armwood and Garino each scored 15 points for George Washington (12-3, 0-1), and McDonald added another 12 points.
