KYW Newsradio's Annual Program For Aspiring Young Journalists Returns

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The 46th annual KYW Newsradio Newstudies program for High School students in the Delaware Valley began this weekend at the CBS Broadcast Center.

"Newstudies is a student reporter program which has been running since 1968," says Dennis Edward, newsroom operations coordinator for KYW Newsradio. "We have managers, reporters who are here to teach students about broadcasting, news writing, media ethics and interviewing."

Student Najay McDuffie says she likes the program because:

"I like to be the one to first know things."

(Reporter) "What's interesting to you so far about the program?"

"What interests me is actually meeting people who are in the field and getting connections with people who are in radio and television."

Sean McKenty is another participant spending Saturdays in the newsroom.

"I got up at 7 a.m.," he says.

But he adds it's well worth it.
