KYW Flashback: Vince Fumo Heads To Prison

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - In another Philadelphia chapter of "The Mighty Have Fallen," Vince Fumo, a powerhouse South Philadelphia lawmaker, was sentenced to prison six years ago.

Fumo was charged and convicted of corruption after a lengthy federal investigation that forced the state senate leader from office.

The probers were following allegations that Fumo used taxpayer staffers for personal work, that he strong armed PECO into pouring more than $17-million into his charity and that he tapped the charity like a piggy bank.

Gone were the days when opera filled his opulent South Philly office, where rich and poor gathered to seek favors.

Ironically he followed his predecessor, Buddy Cianfrani, from power to prison.
