KYW Flashback: KYW Goes Digital

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The year was 1984. Young people had already arrived in the computer age. They were now experts in the engine of commerce, finance, social life and soon - KYW Newsradio.

KYW had received its first personal computer - an Apple Plus. It was for the editors. The problem was, no one among them had ever used a computer, didn't know what to use it for, or even how to turn it on. A sadder group was hard to imagine.

Then, editor Larry Litwin mentioned that his 12-year-old son knew how to use computers. Maybe he could help. And so, for the next four Saturdays, young Adam Litwin stood at the center of a group of Newsradio editors, teaching the basics of computer operations.

When he walked away with a handsome gift, the editors could finally say they knew as much as an eighth grader.
