KYW Flashback: FBI Thwarts Terrorist Plan In New Jersey

FORT DIX, N.J. (CBS) - The plan was to kill as many American soldiers as possible.

But this wasn't Iraq or Afghanistan. It was central New Jersey and the plot was being hatched outside the gates of Fort Dix.

Eight years ago, KYW reported that the home-grown Jihadist scheme came apart as the FBI arrested six amateur terrorists trying to buy guns and explosives from a federal operative.

Their only claim to expertise was that one of the six had delivered pizzas from a family eatery to the base and knew the territory.

But a video showing them training in the Poconos found its way to investigators. Four are serving life, another 33 years and the sixth -- the least involved -- is already free.
