Kenney Slams Toll Brothers' Plan To Double Height Of Jewelers' Row Project

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney slammed a controversial plan by Toll Brothers to double the height of its Jewelers' Row project.

The plan increases the height of the condo complex near 7th Avenue and Sansom from 16 stories to 29.

In his statement on Friday, Kenney said the city doesn't have the power to stop their plan, but hopes Toll Brothers will make changes in order to continue a productive relationship with the city.

"I expect the Civic Design Review Board to make serious recommendations that will respect the historic nature of the properties, and I urge the Toll Brothers to adopt those recommendations or make the necessary adjustments on their own," Kenney said. "If they do not, Toll Brothers will be sending a clear message that they no longer wish to have a productive relationship with the City of Philadelphia."
