Officials: Florida Man Arrested, Charged With Kidnapping 12-Year-Old Collingswood Girl

COLLINGSWOOD, N.J. (CBS) --Authorities have arrested and charged a Florida man with kidnapping a 12-year-old girl who police recently found safe in Philadelphia.

Liam Heim, 21, is charged with allegedly taking Kayla Sparano who had been last seen by a friend at Collingswood High School on Wednesday during the day, but she was later found unharmed on Bartram Avenue on Friday night.

Heim faces one count of first-degree kidnapping and one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to authorities.

He also faces a charge by Homeland Security Investigations with transportation of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity and interstate travel to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

Authorities say Heim was arrested without incident and is being held at the Federal Detention Center awaiting federal first appearance on Monday and a detention hearing tentatively scheduled for Thursday.

Authorities say Sparano was observed at the Collingswood PATCO station around 2 p.m. on Thursday and was believed to be traveling with Heim.

Police are continuing their investigation.

Anyone with any information is asked to call authorities at 609-422-7219.
