K-9 Units Mark Milestone As They Graduate From Penn Vet's Working Dog Center
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two police officers and their K-9 companions graduated from Penn Vet's Working Dog Center on Friday.
Hundreds of hours of training are complete and now SEPTA Officer Rich Donaldson and Quest are ready to hit the streets.
"It is going to be so much fun. I cannot wait. He's trained for explosives. He can identify a variety of explosives from C4 to black powder to TNT. It doesn't matter what type of explosive it is, he'll be able to find it."
With the Democratic National Convention right around the corner, Officer Donaldson says they will be very busy keeping everyone safe.
Norristown Officer Chris Narkin is Nero's handler. They will be the first K-9 unit in Norristown in more than a decade.
"It was definitely very challenging, but was absolutely worth it in the end. We trained in criminal apprehension, drugs, tracking. He's been living with me for about 3 or 4 weeks now. He's great with the kids; he's a great dog."
