Jury Sent Home For The Night In Yandamuri Trial

NORRISTOWN, Pa., (CBS) -- After nearly six hours of deliberations, the jury hearing the case of an Upper Merion man charged with murdering a ten-month-old infant and her grandmother was sent home for the night.
Earlier in the night it appeared there was a verdict, but when it came time for the jury to enter the courtroom, they reversed course saying there was no decision. After a couple of notes to the judge, he finally sent them home to get a good night's rest. The judge indicated there was an issue, but said it was nothing the court can't handle, but there are procedures. He also plans to call the three alternates back. Attorney Steve Heckman is advising defendant Raghu Yandamuri.
"The jury isn't close to a verdict and we have to find out what the problem is in this particular case…I can't get into specifics," Heckman said.
He wouldn't say whether he thought this could be at least a partial victory for Yandamuri who is facing the death penalty if convicted of first degree murder. He says he's given up trying to figure out juries.
