Jury Dismissed For Weekend In Sexual Assault Trial Of Former Temple University Fraternity President Ari Goldstein
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Jury deliberations will resume Tuesday in Ari Goldstein's rape trial. The former Temple University fraternity president is on trial for sexually assaulting two fellow students.
The trial lasted for three days the jury deliberated for two hours on Friday. Both the prosecution and the defense talked after the jury was dismissed for the day.
"This came down to the word 'no,'" Assistant District Attorney Zach Wynkoop said.
"You know I really can't talk about it right now. So we'll talk about it when we get a verdict," defense attorney Perry DeMarco said.
The prosecution on Goldstein's case says two women said no to sexual advances, but he ignored them.
The defense maintains those encounters were consensual.
One accuser says her encounter with Goldstein was consensual at first in November 2017. But during oral sex, he became violent after she tried to resist him and said no.
Another accuser says in February 2018, Goldstein attempted to sexually assault her at a party at the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity house. Goldstein was president of the fraternity at the time.
The accuser says he invited her to his room to smoke marijuana but once there, he tried to force oral sex but she said no and ran away.
Goldstein faces charges of rape and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.
"I think this case was about a lot of things and I think I summed it up the best I could for the jury, so we'll see what they say next week," Wynkoop said.
Lawyers are under a gag order.
Goldstein is maintaining his innocence. The jury will be back to deliberate after the holiday on Tuesday.
