Joe Banner: Lockout Prevented Patrick Peterson From Becoming An Eagle
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Nothing like Joe Banner pouring some salt into the wounds of Eagles fans everywhere, to get you through the week.
Speaking on Wednesday's ESPN NFL Insiders show, the former Eagles' president explained how the lockout prior to the 2011 draft prevented a trade that would have eventually made five-time Pro Bowl corner Patrick Peterson an Eagle.
"When we were in Philadelphia, we traded Kevin Kolb to the Arizona Cardinals for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round draft pick," Banner said. "The original trade was the fifth pick of the draft – which we were targeting Patrick Peterson for –- and the second round pick the next year. Because there was a lockout, we weren't allowed to make trades leading into the draft or else Patrick Peterson would have been a Philadelphia Eagle."
Of course, the Eagles ended up selecting 26-year-old guard Danny Watkins with their first-round pick (No. 23) in 2011, as only the Eagles could. Watkins was released two years later.
