Joaquin's Landfall May Be Days Away, But Utilities Warn 'Be Prepared For Possible Power Outages'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Local utilities are watching the weather forecasts as Hurricane Joaquin tracks north.

Landfall for Hurricane Joaquin could be days away, but utilities are preparing just in case.

Frank Tedesco, with Atlantic City Electric, has this advice for customers: "Be prepared for the possibility of a power outage that can last a short period of time, or multiple days depending on the damage to our system. But we are monitoring the storm to see what impact it may have on our service territory."

Atlantic City Electric serves parts of eight counties in South Jersey.

Tedesco says at this point, a different system is bringing winds and heavy rains over the next day or so. But he says depending on the direction, Joaquin could make landfall locally on Sunday.
