Jersey Shore Beaches Can't Escape Hermine's Wrath
CAPE MAY COUNTY, N.J. (CBS) - Officials down the shore have some cleanup to do in the wake of the Labor Day weekend pass by Tropical Storm Hermine.
The storm failed to produce the rain, wind and flooding that had been predicted, passing by New Jersey further to the east than forecasters expected.
While emergency management officials like Marty Pagliughi in Cape May County are breathing a sigh of relief, the beaches were impacted by Hermine.
"There seemed to be pockets of moderate beach erosion in a couple of the towns," he said. "Most of the towns made out fairly well."
The issue? The storm lingered for several days off the coast, bringing rough surf to those beaches.
Not enough to ask for state or federal help, but just enough for towns to have to move sand around on their own to prepare for the fall and winter to come.
