Jazz Festival Coming To South Street This Fall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The second annual Philadelphia United Jazz Festival is gearing up to take over two city blocks on the west side of South Street, and the goal is to showcase Philadelphia-bred musicians.
"We have so many great musicians here -- and it's so unfortunate they don't get the type of spotlight and treatment they deserve," says Warren Oree, a seasoned musician who produced the music for the now-defunct West Oak Lane Jazz Festival.
For the second year, he and partner Graziella D'Amelio are organizing the Philadelphia United Jazz Festival on September 20th. They'll take over South Street from Broad to 16th.
"They hit that block, and I'm going to have the Cleff Club band, as well as another band called Hidden Treasure. In Bob and Barbara's, Lisa Chavous will do that whole juke joint kind of vibe," says Oree.
More than a dozen other bands will play, including the Sun Ra Arkestra. The free jazz festival runs from noon until 8 p.m. For more info, visit: www.philaunitedjazzfestival.com
