Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Veteran's Day Getaway

By Jay Lloyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The nation celebrates Veterans Day on Friday. KYW's Jay Lloyd offers an annual reminder of weekend getaway spots where America's military history is on display.

Army veterans can get a look at what life would have been like if they wore tri-corn hats and carried muskets by visiting Valley Forge National Park. The soldiers huts and Washington's headquarters define sacrifice and determination. For Air Force vets, the Dover base museum and its centerpiece Flying Fortress leaves an indelible impression - even on civilian visitors.

"I have a great deal of respect for those people - putting their lives on the line, doing their jobs that we take for granted every day."

Navy and Marine vets, see the history of their services vividly unfold at the United States Naval Academy Museum in Annapolis, Maryland.

And I often join my fellow Coast Guardsmen in a visit to Baltimore and the Coast Guard Cutter Taney, the last Pearl Harbor survivor.
