Jay Lloyd's Getaway: The Town of Milford, Pennsylvania

By Jay Lloyd

MILFORD, Pa. (CBS) -- It's not easy to find a summer getaway spot in the Pocono Mountains that doesn't ring with the enthusiastic sound of children shouting "Marco!   Polo!"

But recently, we discovered one.

Milford, Pa., on the banks of the Delaware River, is truly a couples' getaway retreat, far from the sound of children but surrounded by pristine wilderness and eye-filling vistas of waterfalls.

"We have people come here and spend their entire weekend just visiting all the different waterfalls in the area," notes Sean Strub, proprietor of the elegant Hotel Fauchere.

The hotel is the center of social life in Milford, a village that has become the epitome of an eclectic American home town.

"It's like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting," Strub says with pride.

That includes a classic, small-town theatre, an arts community, boutique shopping and a series of art and music festivals. The Hotel Fauchere, meanwhile, serves up fine French fare in a couples' environment.

By day, the adjacent Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area provides biking and hiking trails and tranquil paddle escapes on the picturesque river.
