EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Late making reservations for the upcoming long weekend? Don't worry, there's still room at the inn.
For a nearby, last-minute weekend getaway with winter activities, a warming fireplace, fun pubs, and cozy eateries, there's space still available at many destinations in the Pocono Mountains, including three of my own favorite haunts.
Fernwood Resort (top photo), on the Delaware River, has its own snow-tubing hill, a stable for a winter canter in the woods, and a spa. It's also close to Shawnee and Camelback ski areas.

Just to the south, Shawnee Inn is a completely refurbished, classic Poconos hotel: a throwback to the early 20th century, with in-house fine dining, a lively pub, entertainment, and a neighboring playhouse. And it's close to Shawnee Mountain.
Split Rock Lodge, to the west, is parked between Jack Frost and Big Boulder mountains. It's surrounded by a village of diverse eateries and watering holes, with a full range of active and passive wintertime fun.
