By Jay Lloyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you have a fascination for the sea, the majesty of sail and a curiosity about 19th century whalers, KYW's Jay Lloyd says, "Set a course for the Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut."

Stepping into the Mystic Seaport is a journey in time to a 19th century whaling port, but the Mystic River view includes a range of boats and trades that plied the these waters to the present day. The tall masts of the 140 year old whaler, Charles W. Morgan are the centerpieces.

Mary Becaw-Edwards has the role of explaining life at sea and the dangers of whaling on voyages that lasted three years or more. For visitors it's a riveting yarn.

"We were just talking about what it must have been like below deck - how hot and scary"

"Oh. I remember coming here as a little girl, so I wanted to bring my kids here."

Explore the lives of the people who built the majestic ships and those who supplied them. Then taste the bounty of the sea at nearby waterfront eateries.
