Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Free Skiing For The Younger Set

By Jay Lloyd

SPRING MOUNT, Pa. (CBS) -- With snow sports resorts opening early across Pennsylvania, some youngsters are getting to ride and slide, free of charge.

You've heard the old line, "There's no such thing as a free lunch."   So, you might be surprised to learn that kids in the fourth and fifth grades can ski, tube, and snowboard free across the state.

The Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association offers free vouchers for 19 resorts, from the Poconos to the Alleghenies, for an entire season of learning and fun on the snow.

Meanwhile, close to home, Spring Mountain has a special deal of its own.

"We have a program for fourth graders where we give them a free season pass if they live in a school district close to Spring Mountain," says Rick Buckman, who operates the central Montgomery County resort.

Fourth graders at all Philadelphia public, private, and parochial schools are eligible for the Spring Mountain deal, plus students of districts in Montgomery, Berks, Bucks, Chester, and Delaware counties.  Check the Spring Mountain program at springmountainadventures.com.
