Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Enjoying the Harrisburg, Pa., Area

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Pennsylvania's state capitol isn't just for politics. There's some fun and a fine seafood lunch to be had on a Harrisburg getaway.
On impulse, three of us –- all retired KYW Newsradio staffers -- headed to Harrisburg for a visit with Fred Walters, the news director who guided us through the '70s.

Lunch at the Rock Bass Grill, in Lemoyne, Pa., on the opposite bank of the Susquehanna River, was both a visual and a gastronomic treat.

If you find yourself heading west on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the Harrisburg area is worth a stop for lunch, a day, or overnight.
Walters, who was at one time KYW Newsradio's Harrisburg bureau chief, pointed across the river to City Island, the local recreation smorgasbord.
"You have a miniature railroad for the kids, you have miniature golf, you have a minor league baseball park," he told us.
And it all cranks up with the coming of spring.
Meanwhile, the view, the chowder, and the oysters will keep us satisfied here on the opposite bank.
