Jay Lloyd's Getaway: A Romantic Valentine's Day Weekend

By Jay Lloyd

CAPE MAY, N.J. (CBS) -- Whether your idea of a romantic Valentine's Day getaway runs to the shore, the mountains, or the bay, here's a trio of ideas to make the holiday memorable.

This year, Valentine's Day falls on a Friday.  So, even putting in a full workday, it's possible to land for cocktails and dinner in old Cape May.

The Peter Shields Inn, a splendid Georgian Revival jewel with an ocean view, is laying on a special, four-course dinner for the weekend.

For reasonably priced accommodations in Cape May, check out the Victorian Motel, on the mall.  Or, for resort amenities, look up the Congress Hall (below).

For a mountain getaway in a romantic setting, steer a course to Fern Hall Inn.  It's the former summer retreat of the Johnson & Johnson family, located on picturesque Crystal Lake, in the Endless Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania.   You can ski at nearby Elk Mountain between wining and dining at the inn.

Or head for Rock Hall, Maryland, and the Osprey Point Inn.  Period-furnished rooms make for a cozy, romantic weekend with a photogenic view of Swan Creek (below).  The restaurant signals it will have a special treat.

So, next week: live, love, and be happy on a nearby Valentine getaway!
