Jay Lloyd's Getaway: A Quick Trip Back 100 Years

By Jay Lloyd

BOYERTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Talk about throwback days!  The preservation of a major American institution celebrated a half-century last week in a Berks County town that is becoming a regional getaway attraction.

The centerpiece of Boyertown, Pa., is a unique clock tower and a shrine to the Pennsylvania-built automobiles dating back over one hundred years.  (Sounds like something out of Back to the Future!)

Last week, the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles celebrated 50 years of collecting and exhibiting rare and one-of-a-kind rolling stock.

Curator Kendra Cook is justifiably excited by the turnout of the curious as well as historic car buffs.

"We want people to come here and learn. We want people to come here and have fun," she says.

With the museum and the launching of the neighboring Colebrookdale Railroad, which will offer scenic rides between Boyertown and Pottstown this spring, Boyertown is joining the fun list of area day-trip getaway destinations.
