Jaw-Dropping Study: Work LESS Stressful Than Home For Most People

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Where are you more stressed -- at work or at home?  The scientific answer may surprise you.

Sure, the boss is a pain and your co-workers are crazy, but a new study says you're better off in the office than hanging around the house, whether or not you have kids.

"We found that both parents and non-parents had less stress at work than at home, but parents actually weren't quite as less stressed as non-parents were," according to Sarah Damaske, assistant professor of labor and employment relations, sociology, and women's studies at Penn State University.

She says work makes women less frazzled than men, although it's a calmer place for both sexes.  She isn't sure why, because the study wasn't designed to answer that question.

So, the next time you're asked to work overtime, just take a breath and remember: it's good for your health.
