Jason La Canfora Explains The Sanchez/Bradford Dynamic For The Eagles

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- When the Eagles acquired Sam Bradford, the prevailing notion was that he would be the Eagles starting quarterback. That notion has been challenged by Mark Sanchez who is approaching this situation very much like he is in an even quarterback competition.

Chip Kelly has always maintained that his entire roster is in competition and no matter what, the best players will play.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora was on with Josh Innes and Tony Bruno on Thursday and discussed the situation that the Eagles have created for themselves at quarterback.

La Canfora was asked, assuming that Bradford is healthy, can Sanchez really compete.

"I don't know how you can assume health for Sam Bradford," La Canfora said. "I can't say that A + B = C, because I'm not willing to concede A.

"There was a sense [in St. Louis] that [Bradford] had become damaged goods," La Canfora said. "I don't think you become more confident through injuries like this."

La Canfora also addressed the possibility of Sanchez being the starter and the Eagles having a $13 million back up in Bradford. He characterized Kelly as the exact coach to do something like that.

"He doesn't care," La Canfora said of Kelly's attitude toward the dollars. "If he thinks Mark Sanchez is going to help him win on Sunday, he's rolling with Mark Sanchez."

La Canfora added that Sanchez could perhaps have a physical edge over Bradford while he is not 100 percent healthy, but Sanchez also has a very important edge mentally as he racks up reps that Bradford misses.

La Canfora believes the starting job will go to the quarterback "who is going to think as fast as Chip, or at least the guy who thinks fastest to Chip and I have a hard time thinking that's going to be Bradford from day one, first time camp starts."
