Philadelphia Eagles acquire CB Jakorian Bennett in trade with Las Vegas Raiders
The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired cornerback Jakorian Bennett in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night. The Eagles sent defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV to the Raiders in the deal.
The trade was made official on Tuesday.
Bennett, 24, was a fourth-round pick by the Raiders in the 2023 NFL draft out of the University of Maryland.
Over the last two seasons, Bennett has played in 24 games, including 11 starts.
In 10 games in 2024, Bennett had 26 tackles and eight pass deflections. He missed the last seven weeks of the 2024 season due to a shoulder injury.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said on Tuesday that the team liked Bennett's tape coming out of Maryland in 2023.
"I think [Executive Vice President/General Manager] Howie [Roseman] does such a good job of continually trying to improve our football team," Sirianni said. "No one does it better than he does and we thought that was an opportunity to add some depth at corner. We feel good about our depth. Obviously, we'll miss Book and wish him the best. We feel good about our depth at defensive tackle, but just a way to add some depth there at corner."
Bennett will now join the Eagles in training camp amid a battle for the starting outside corner spot alongside Quinyon Mitchell. Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo are the favorites to win the job, and Eli Ricks is involved in the competition. Bennett was selected one pick before Ringo in the 2023 NFL draft.
The Eagles are looking for a new starter next to Mitchell after the team released veteran Darius Slay and lost fellow cornerback Isaiah Rodgers to free agency.
When asked if he's seeing any separation between Jackson and Ringo in the battle for the starting job, defense coordinator Vic Fangio said on Monday that it's been close.
"I think both of them are having a good camp, but it's close and been happy with both of them and we'll see," Fangio said.
Sirianni echoed Fangio's comments from Monday about Ringo and Jackson and said that Bennett joining the cornerback group will bring more competition.
"I think both of those guys have done an outstanding job and I know Vic talked about that yesterday," Sirianni said. "That's a battle. You love having battles and I think you can look out there and see Adoree' make a play and you see Kelee make a play, and you guys have seen it. They're doing a really nice job and [we're] excited about how they worked and how they worked all offseason, how they worked all summer and came in here ready to compete. Competition brings out the best in all our guys, and we're looking forward to continuing those battles with those guys."
Booker played in 17 games last season with the Eagles. He had 18 tackles, one sack and two quarterback hits. He joined Philadelphia's practice squad in 2023. He was drafted by the Houston Texans in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft.
