Jake's Sandwich Board: Turbacon Sandwich, $9

The name itself is worth a few points on the judges' cards – a takeoff on the gastronomic delight that is turducken. Bottom line, however, is that the sandwich doesn't live up to the hype of its name.

The Turbacon, simply, is hand carved turkey (very good), smothered with gravy and cranberry-apple spread, topped with silver dollar-sized potato pancakes and – here it comes – a few strips of bacon. Stuff it all into a seeded roll and it's a glutton's delight.

Fine sandwich. Worthy sandwich. It's a little overwhelmed by the roll, which winds up getting soggy, so eat fast by the way. But special in a bacon kind of way? Not really. Even though this baby was constructed by someone wearing a T-shirt reading "Baconista," I felt it was more about the turkey and gravy than any pork product. Nothing wrong with that, just not the point of this hunt.
