Is It A Boy Or A Girl? Have A Bite Of Cake And Find Out

HADDONFIELD, N.J. (CBS) --- Some parents-to-be are turning to a "sweet" way of announcing to their families if they're having a boy or a girl.

Cakes may be an important accessory for weddings, birthdays and baby showers, but these days many moms-to-be are buying cakes to announce their baby's gender.

"We've been getting them for the past year, year and a half, but right now it's just every other phone call," says Toni Moshen, owner of Sweet T's bake shop.

She says moms-to-be conspire with their ultrasound technicians to get Moshen the information she needs to create a cake that's either blue or pink on the inside.

"We're not in contact with the ultrasound tech, but they take a piece of paper, write it down, they seal the envelope and bring it directly to us," she says.

The cakes are generally eaten at family gatherings and everyone finds out the baby's gender together.

"And they just can't wait to slice into this cake! A lot of anticipation," Moshen says.
