IronPigs Step Up To The Plate For A Local Farmer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Todd Hedrick, had his farm violated when someone shot four of his pigs on Saturday. The shooting left two of the pigs dead, while a third had to be put down later due to the injuries.

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs are not taking this incident lightly. The organization announced that they will purchase three replacement piglets for Hedrick.

"Our staff was very upset by the news and wanted to show our devotion to pig lovers," IronPigs General Manager Kurt Landes said.

The IronPigs actually have quite the track record when it comes to standing up to pig-related atrocities.

In 2007, a woman in Lansford, Pa., broke an ordinance when she decided to keep pot-bellied pigs in her home. The team paid the fine on the woman's behalf after she agreed to comply with the ordinance.

The next year, the IronPigs offered a reward for information regarding the whereabouts of a lost pot-bellied pig in Warwick Township, Pa. In 2010, the team chose to honor and reward a man in La Center, Wa., who saved the life of a pig though mouth-to-snout resuscitation.
