Injury Report: Ravens hurting with Jimmy Smith Out For The Season

By Samuel Njoku

The Ravens suffered a huge loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. Now they turn their attention to the Tennessee Titans. It’s a game that Baltimore should win, but may struggle with prominent players suffering big time injuries.

Jimmy Smith is out for the season

It seems as if every team suffers at least one major injury in any given season. This season, the injury belongs to CB Jimmy Smith. The Ravens secondary has been downright abysmal this season. The lone bright spot on that unit was 4th year corner Jimmy Smith who was playing at a Pro Bowl level. He suffered a foot injury during the Week 8 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Preliminary analysis of the injury indicated that the cornerback would be out for a few weeks before returning to action. But after visiting with doctors, it was determined that Smith would require foot surgery and would be inactive for the rest of the season. With Lardarius Webb struggling to return to form, and the rest of the secondary playing about as poor as possible, Smith’s loss is as huge as it gets.

For now, it appears as if Lardarius Webb with start alongside newly acquired corner Danny Gorrer and Tramain Jacobs. That’s an awful looking secondary.

Offensive Line Ready to Play

With the secondary struggling, the Ravens will ask a lot from their offense. With injuries to their offensive line, they may be asking a bit too much. Luckily for Baltimore, the Ravens look healthy on that side of the ball heading into Sunday’s game. Jeremy Zuttah and Marshal Yanda didn’t practice on Wednesday which left many wondering if they’d be available for Sunday’s game. After practicing on Thursday and Friday, it is safe to assume that both will be active for the game against Tennessee. Though the Titans aren’t necessarily known for their offensive prowess, the possibility of a shootout exists with the poor play of Baltimore’s secondary. Having one of their best offensive lineman on the field eases the mind of the offense without question.
