Infant Dies After NJ Mom Allegedly Using Drugs Rolls Over On Her

VENTNOR, N.J. (CBS) – Authorities say a seven-month-old girl has died, several days after her mother, who was allegedly under the influence of drugs, injured the child after rolling over on her.

The Atlantic County Prosecutors Office says the baby was discovered unconscious and unresponsive on January 3rd in her home in the 5700 block of Monmouth Avenue in Ventnor, New Jersey.

Medical personal performed CPR, authorities say, and the child was eventually taken to St. Christopher's Hospital in Philadelphia, where she was pronounced dead on Friday.

The mother, 30-year-old Lisa Scalia, was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and four counts of Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substances, including heroin.

She was arrested and remains jailed on $100,000 cash bail.

Results from an autopsy on the infant are pending.
