Independence Day Parade Winds Through Old City Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Despite occasional rain, the annual Independence Day parade was held today in Old City.
There was an abundance of music, costumes, and American flags, a celebration of the many cultures that make up this city.
"All different groups showing different music and the different backgrounds," said one man. "Very nice."
"It's awesome!" said a woman.
"This is our first time in Philly for Fourth of July," acknowledged another female spectator.
While some folks danced on the sidewalk, others told me this parade exceeded their expectations:
"The energy is great, and I love all the history, too. Like, the founding fathers walked by!"
What did they like best about the parade?
"So far, I think, the float that just went by with the fly guys and band -- that was pretty good."
And there were special guests, too: Mayor Nutter and Vice President Biden walked the parade route.

"Actually, he took a picture with my daughter, so I'm sending it out to everyone -- you know, her grandmother and all the family!"
