In South Philadelphia, Snow Brings Out The Best in Neighbors

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Narrow, unplowed side streets in South Philadelphia were making getting around today a challenge.

"It's been a rough winter for all of us," admits Joe Lostritto.   "We are dealing with it.  We deal and cope, and move on."

Many South Philly residents say they're hanging in there, getting through the winter one shovel scoop at a time.

Lostritto knows there has been a lot of snow this year, but he would like to see a more aggressive approach to snow removal crews by the city.

"I think they should be out here around the clock, doing these streets," he said today.  "How are we supposed to go to work?"

Another resident, Mr. Hernandez, said he was among those checking on neighbors and shoveling sidewalks for those who are not able to do it for themselves.

"We help everybody and we see everybody is okay," he said.
