IHP Hosts Global Gala Fundraiser Highlighting Korean Culture

By Andrew Kramer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - International House Philadelphia celebrates a different country every year during their Global Gala fundraiser.

This year Korean heritage takes center stage at the 54th Global Gala in West Philly.

"We will feature Korean cuisine, art, music, entertainment and guests from the Korean-American community," explains IHP CEO Tanya Steinberg.

One of those guests is this year's honoree -- City Councilman David Oh.

"David Oh is a perfect choice because he's a distinguished Korean-American and a leader who was born and raised here in Philadelphia," says Steinberg.

Those attending the Gala will experience Korean barbecue, Soju cocktails and a silent auction among many other things.

The night concludes with the Global Gala After-Party, which features dancing performances and karaoke in both English and Korean.

Proceeds help benefit International House Philadelphia -- which houses over 800 students, scholars and professional trainees annually from as many as 95 countries, including the United States.
