HVAC Worker Accused Of Spying On Girls' Bathroom At Glen Landing Middle School, Officials Say

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- An HVAC contractor who allegedly placed mirrors in a girls' bathroom at a South Jersey school is facing charges, Gregory Mahley is spending his evening in the Camden County Jail after police say he was busted spying on young girls in stalls in a middle school bathroom.

"The mirrors were affixed to the bathroom stall in a way that someone, certainly a young teenager, may have thought it was supposed to be there," Gloucester Township Police Chief David Harkins said.

Thanks to a vigilant Glen Landing Middle School teacher, 51-year-old Mahley was arrested after staff discovered mirrors were installed on the inside of the bathroom stall doors.

Staff became suspicious that someone was peering through an air conditioning vent over top of the stalls.

"The staff acted very quickly, contacted the Gloucester Township police school resource officer who immediately responded. And we were able to conduct the investigation," Harkins said.

Mahley was an outside contractor for Multi-Temp Mechanical Inc. in Westville. The company has done work for the school district for the last few years.

It learned about the accusations against Mahley Thursday and is working with police.

The accused's girlfriend spoke with Eyewitness News.

"I know nothing about it. I'm in complete shock, devastated. He's a wonderful man and I never saw this coming," she said.

Mahley's girlfriend didn't want to be on camera but says she hopes the accused peeping Tom is given a fair trial.

"I'm still with him. I'm not sure what's going to happen, but I'm going to support him as much as I can because I love him," she said.

The district checked all of the buildings where Mahley worked and did not find any other suspicious activity.

Mahley faces a slew of charges, including one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
