How Much Is The Right Amount To Pay A Babysitter?

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new survey indicates the going rate for babysitting is on the rise. So how much do you pay your babysitter? And how does it compare?

According to new data from urbansitter.com, the national average babysitting rate is over $15 an hour.

Higher cost cities demand more, while lower cost cities demand less, but from speaking with folks in Philadelphia, locally, it seems that the rates run a full range.

"A low rate is probably like 7 or 8 dollars. I mean, if someone asks for 12 or 13 that's too much. I think $10/hour is perfect."

"I kind of varies. I guess some people, if they're just beginning they start off with like $10 and just go up from there."

"$10/hour. It's a hard job!"

But the biggest determiner of how much a babysitter gets paid could lie in their negotiating skills.

"I actually have them name their own price because I babysit for my aunt so I just tell her to offer me whatever and I just take what I can."

Kuznits: "It's hard to ask for it, huh?"

"It is. It's very hard!"
