PA House Committee Approves Kane Impeachment Investigation

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- A state House committee unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday to begin an investigation that could lead to the impeachment of embattled Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane. The full House will now have to vote on the measure.

The impeachment issue popped up in the House on the day before a Senate committee is to release its report on whether it believes Kathleen Kane can function as attorney general with a suspended law license. That report could set the stage to remove Kane through a process called Senate Address. Republican Ron Marisco, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, says his committee is not responding to any indication of a halt in the Senate process.

"We have had no discussions at all with the Senate leaders regarding what they're doing. Actually, they know we're going to be doing this. But that's not because of they're having problems over there."

Impeachment is a much lengthier process then the Senate procedure and a House investigation of Kane would likely take several months. If Kane would be impeached, a Senate trial would follow.
