'Homework Bar' Helps Motivate Kids To Do Their Work

BALA CYNWYD, Pa. (CBS) – A new program is raising the bar on how local students are tutored.

The Homework Bar & Lounge, in Bala Cynwyd, gives students a place to study, get help with their school work and let off some steam.

"There's a pool table for them to take advantage of, ping pong table upstairs, we offer various clubs – whatever intrigues kids and inspires them," explains Ronit Tehrani (in top photo).

Tehrani dropped out of school in the 10th grade, so after getting her GED and working in the business world for a number of years, she's making it her mission to help kids succeed in school by making it fun.

"It's just important to get kids here. Once they're in, they don't want to leave," she says.

Noah Kalandar is a junior at Kohelet High School.

"It's a really good environment, and a really good space, while also getting help from the specialized tutors that are here," he says.

The Homework Bar also offers those all-important snacks students need while they're studying.
