Driver arrested for DUI following deadly hit-and-run in Northeast Philadelphia
Philadelphia police arrested a person who drove away after hitting a 72-year-old woman with their truck in Northeast Philly Friday night. Investigators said the driver appeared to be intoxicated and was arrested for DUI.
The person was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram eastbound on the 3500 block of Ryan Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. when they struck the woman, according to police. Police did not immediately provide a name for the driver.
Medics brought the woman to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where she later died from her injuries on Saturday morning. Her name has not yet been released by police.
Police were able to find the Dodge Ram near the intersection of Walker and Levick streets and towed the truck as part of their investigation.
