Historic Bartram's Garden Home Reopens After Renovation
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A nearly $3 million renovation of a historic home and garden is complete and open to visitors at Bartram's Garden in Southwest Philadelphia.
Rare roses and exotic flowers from around the world are planted in the pattern designed by Ann Bartram in the 19th century.
"Chrysanthemums, dhalias, peonies, hydrangeas that are more heirloom quality plants."
Executive director Maitreyi Roy says it took six years for her team to complete this slice of heaven, which is the oldest public garden in the city.
"We're here to celebrate a beautiful green space and a woman who in the early 1800s dedicated her life to sharing knowledge about plants."
The original home John Bartram built in 1731 was also restored and is now open for tours.
