High Bacteria Levels In The Water Prompt Closures At Jersey Shore Beaches
SOUTH JERSEY (CBS) -- Several beaches at the Jersey Shore have experienced closures this week due to elevated bacteria levels in the water.
Gateway National Recreation Area announced on Facebook yesterday morning that Gunnison Beach was closed due to elevated bacteria levels.

People were still permitted to sunbathe on the shore but swimming was prohibited. The beach, which calls itself New Jersey's only legal clothing-optional beach reopened Wednesday.
But it's not the only beach that has been closed despite people flooding the shore towns to escape the heat wave farther north.
According to New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection, Cape May Beach at Pittsburgh Avenue is closed today as the result of a sewage spill on Monday. Samples of the water taken today were still deemed unsafe.

Ten other beaches including portions of Avalon, Wildwood and Seaside Heights also have water advisories in effect which means that people are still allowed to go in but are warned of the potentially unhealthy water conditions that could make them sick.
