Hidden Sugar In Labels Found -- Now Don't Eat Too Much!

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It is estimated that 70-percent of Americans eat too much added sugar.

Of course, much of the sugar is hidden and we do not even know we are eating it. But hidden sugars in foods may not be hidden for much longer.

Recent changes to nutrition labels make it easier to find out and new changes could help you keep your sugar intake in check. According to the FDA, foods must list "added sugars" in grams and if they get their way, the FDA will make certain labels to list the percent daily value of added sugar.

In case you are wondering, experts recommend that no more than ten-percent of a person's daily calories come from added sugars. If you eat 1,600 calories, for example, no more than 160 of them should be from added sugars.

But that's hard to figure out based on the current label, which only lists grams of sugar.
