Heavy Thunderstorms Expected Friday, Then A Comfortable, Refreshing Weekend

By Kate Bilo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The weather across the eastern half of the nation is being influenced by a large and slow-moving storm system that will eventually move through our area on Friday - but until then, we've got scattered showers and thunderstorms to contend with as an unsettled pattern remains in place.

A backdoor front was draped across the northeast today, producing a very stark contrast in temperatures - while DC rose into the 90's, we were much cooler and across New England, temperatures were more than thirty degrees colder than yesterday! Tonight will be cooler than recent nights as well, with a low of 54. Can't rule out a stray shower with the boundary in place, but most of us stay dry.

Tomorrow is similar to today, with more clouds than sun and the chance for a few isolated showers, and highs reaching the middle 70's. We'll head back to the 80's with sunshine on Thursday but once again, showers and storms are in the forecast - and then Friday ends up being a washout with heavy thunderstorms rolling through all day. With tropical moisture feeding into this slow-moving front, we'll have to watch for flash flood concerns on Friday.

The good news is that the system clears the area Friday night, and the weekend will be comfortable and refreshing with sunshine and highs in the low 70's.
