Health: Vitamin D Could Slow Or Reverse Progression Of Low-grade Prostate Tumors

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Researchers say taking vitamin D supplements could have benefits for men with prostate cancer.

According to researchers at the Medical University of South Carolina, taking vitamin D supplements could slow or even reverse the progression of low-grade prostate tumors.

Those researchers say that more than half of men taking 4,000 units of vitamin D over a two-month period showed improvement, and sometimes even the disappearance of their tumors.

"The results of this clinical study suggest that supplementation with vitamin D(3) at 4000 IU per day may benefit patients with early-stage, low-risk prostate cancer on active surveillance," the scientists concluded.
