Health Insurance Sign Up Inches Closer To Deadline

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The deadline to get health insurance under the Affordable Care Act is just one week away and health care advocates are pulling out the stops to get people signed up.

Marlon Bacon is a certified application counselor (someone specially trained to help the uninsured navigate the healthcare-dot-gov web site) and with just a week left to do the job, he is hitting the streets to make sure no one is left out.

Bacon says he's encouraged that he's running into more people, like Sharina Hardrick, that have signed up.

"Since I got Obamacare, it's 55 dollars a month with dental and medical and it's wonderful and I'm glad I was able to get it," Hardrick says.

Philadelphia has one of the highest rates of sign-up in the country but Bacon expects a busy final week.

After canvassing at Broad and Olney, last Friday, he had a list of at least a dozen people still hoping to get coverage.

After next Monday, sign up closes until October.

Efforts to beat the deadline for Affordable Care Act health insurance is in the home stretch.
