Police: 3 Armed Men Duct-Taped Mouths Of Nail Salon Owner, Children In Violent Robbery On New Year's Eve
HAVERTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- The search is on for three suspects who terrorized a Delaware County nail salon owner and his family. They barged in with semi-automatic handguns and tied up the victims.
Haverford Township police released surveillance video on Thursday showing three men with guns forcing the owner of Fiji Nail Salon in Havertown into his shop late on New Year's Eve.
"He was rushed by three black males with handguns," Haverford Township Police Chief John Viola said. "They came out of the shadows, forced him inside the building."
The suspects then duct-taped the owner's mouth and tied his hands.
"They ransacked the front of the business, then they went to an ATM and cleared that out," Viola said.
Police believe the owner was targeted and may have been watched for about two weeks before the suspects made their move on New Year's Eve night, just after 10 p.m.
The nail salon's owner also lived above the business in the 100 block of West Eagle Road with his family.
Police say the suspects spared no one in their robbery and attack, including the victim's children.
"The perpetrators went upstairs with the owner where the family lives. There was five children there and an elderly nanny," Viola said. "They terrorized the family, duct-taped the kids' mouths and savagely beat the husband trying to find more money."
After a frightening 30 to 45 minutes, the victim and family members were finally able to free themselves and called 911.
The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police have now enlisted the help of the FBI in hopes to catch these violent robbers.
"It's very important that we get these people under arrest for what they did to a family is beyond comprehension," Viola said.
