Have An Oak Tree? You May Spend The Rest Of Season Raking Up Acorns
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you have an oak tree, you could be busy raking up acorns all season long.
Some trees are filled with the oak nuts which are pelting houses, cars and lawns as they fall.
Anthony Aiello, Curator and Director of Horticulture at the Morris Arboretum says each tree has an acorn cycle, usually around 5-7 years, so some are having a bumper crop, while others maybe producing fewer nuts.
If your tree is plentiful, the local creatures are loving it.
"Blue jays for instance one of their favorite foods are acorns and it's hard to imagine a blue jay choking down an acorn, but they do and certainly squirrels and deer all eat them, so it has benefits for all the native wildlife."
And if all those nuts appear smaller than in recent years, blame it on the dry conditions.
