Grow Your Gardening Knowledge At The Barnes

By Phran Novelli

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Since gardeners aren't so busy in winter, it's a good time to take a class, and the Arboretum School of the Barnes Foundation in Merion, PA, (where I spent three years learning about horticulture) is introducing some new workshops where you can learn about a single topic in one or just a few short classes. Beginning next week you can learn loads about Weed Science for example, and what to do about them and other invasive plants.

If you've thought about turning your green thumb into your livelihood, or you're a landscaper looking to do better, consider their Business of Horticulture course. Or get an in-depth guide to growing Hardy Bulbs, building a Bog Container Garden, or Designing With Plant Ensembles, the down-to-earth way to create gardens by combining plant collections in the most pleasing ways.

There's even a class on Botanical Illustration, something I've always wanted to try - and it's open to any skill level, so you don't need to be an accomplished artist to join it.

Costs vary by the length of each course - get details and dates at the BarnesFoundation.org.
